About the Item

Jacques Heim is inextricably linked with the history of French fashion. In the years 1958-1962 he was the president of the highly influential Paris Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture (the central body overseeing French Haute Couture). A period which also coincided with the world of Parisian couture shifting to the new world of ready to wear. Jacques Heim believed that fashion would thrive with change and adaptation. Although he exhibited none of the flamboyance or temperament of competitors like Yves Saint Laurent and Dior, he collaborated with iconic artists like Sonia Delaunay to create steadfastly modern fashion designs. He was an innovator who created designs that are smart, eclectic and of many styles yet always luxurious and elegant This circa late 1950s evening gown constructed in of gold silk satin has a fitted bodice that open into a long skirt. The waist, bust and collar line are adorned with appliqués saffron and gold pearls, rhinestone and metallic threads. This dress embodies the feminine and romantic style of dressing that was popularized after WWII with Dior’s New Look.
